Ben Fogle's wife Marina has been criticised for refusing to tell her young daughter that she is pretty - because she doesn't want her to become obsessed with her looks.
Marina Fogle, 41, said society 'puts pressure' on women to perfect and she feels it's her job to teach Iona, seven, that there are more important things than being beautiful.
Speaking on Good Morning Britain, Marina claimed that her children would be offended if she praised their looks, and would prefer to be called 'generous' and 'tenacious' instead.
Baffled GMB viewers said that of course parents should make their children feel good about their looks, with one asking: 'What has the world come to?'

The show was debating the issue after Professor Carol Dweck, a Stanford University psychologist, said that how child are praised has a direct influence on their psychological development, and a growing number of psychologists believe telling girls that they are pretty is is giving them an insecurity that they might not always be the prettiest
Marina, who also shares Ludo, eight, with Ben, said she makes her children feel good about themselves but doesn't do it by complimenting their looks.
She said: 'When you're a parent you have a unique opportunity to tell them what is important in life and what's not important in life.
'I do not for one minute not make my daughter feel good about who she is as a person, but if we constantly call our children beautiful, they're pretty, they go away thinking pretty is really important, how I look is really important.
Baffled GMB viewers took to Twitter to say that of course parents should make their children feel good about their looks (pictured), with one asking: 'What has the world come to?'
'The rest of the world is going to drum that into them more.'
Marina claimed that she'd asked her children how they'd feel if she called them pretty or handsome but they didn't want her to, claiming it 'means nothing to them'.
She claimed they said: 'I'd much rather you called me generous and kind and tenacious than pretty.'
Her comments were criticised by viewers, who said it's important to boost children's self-esteem about the way they look.

Fall for florals like Leanne in a printed jumpsuit from Zara
Appearing on Good Morning Britain means an early start, but Real Housewives of Cheshire star Leanne Brown has mastered the art of looking good at 7.45am!
She chose a Zara jumpsuit for her debate with Marina Fogle, and it perfectly ticks the pyjama trend off the list. We love the tropical floral print, as well as the piped detailing and tie waist, which gives it a real sleepy chic feel.
Unfortunately it has now sold out, but click (right) to take a closer look before you head to your local high street store on the off-chance there might be some left.
No luck? Make like Leanne with the help of our edit below instead!

One tweeted: 'Of course you should tell your child they are beautiful/handsome. For the women who is against it, is bizarre. Mother goals NOT. How can you not!!?'
'Oh these debates are getting ridiculous now.........fogle have a word with your wife!' another posted.
A third posted: 'Why can't you do both? I frequently tell my daughter she is clever, kind, brave etc AND pretty.'
Marina was faced by Real Housewives of Cheshire star Leanne Brown, 41, in the debate, who said there should be 'balance' between calling a child pretty while praising them for their other attributes.

Leanne, who shares Halle, 15, Lilia, 11, and six-year-old Lola with Manchester United player Wes Brown, called the debate 'political correctness gone mad'.
She said: 'It's creates self-esteem and builds confidence. You can have balance, you can tell your daughter that they're pretty but also encourage them and praise their efforts as well.
'When my daughter says ''You look pretty mummy, you look beautiful'' I feel good, it builds confidence. I care about the way I look.
'You've put your makeup on, you've done your hair, if you don't think it's important how people view you why have you made an effort today?'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
