«Breaking News» Forgotten images of Vietnam: Never before published photos of the 20 year long war

Arresting images of the Vietnam War that depict life away from the battlefield and the soldier's interaction with civilians have been immortalized in a new book and exhibition.

Art Greenspon kept his recollections of photographing the Vietnam War for Overseas Weekly tucked away deep in his memory, as inaccessible as the images themselves.

Then in 2014, a treasure trove of 35 millimeter negatives emerged from the gloom of a Scandinavian cellarreminding Greenspon of his time working for a weekly tabloid called 'Overseas Weekly in Vietnam'.

His work and that of others is rediscovered in a new book and exhibition, entitled 'We Shot the War: Overseas Weekly in Vietnam'. The exhibition runs from now until December 8 at the Herbert Hoover Memorial Exhibit Pavilion at Stanford University.

They offer relaxed portraits of American GIs and Vietnamese civilians taken between 1966 and 1972 and  mostly show the long hours of boredom and tedium that dominate life at war.

Here are just a selection of images which capture moments of levity and humanity during the long-drawn out war.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
