«Breaking News» Apprentice, 18, is stabbed twice and contracts hepatitis while locked behind bars

An apprentice who was wrongfully arrested for the death of an African teenager claims he contracted hepatitis while behind bars.

Tommy Jackson, 20, from Perth, says he 'can't hold down a job' and struggles to sleep after his stint in Casuarina Prison.

At the age of 18, Mr Jackson spent 11 months locked up at the maximum security prison for a murder he didn't commit.

During his time behind bars, Mr Jackson claims he contracted hepatitis after being stabbed twice.

'I got stabbed twice, my arm got cut up,' he told A Current Affair

He is now fighting for compensation for the injuries he sustained and his time lost in prison.

'I'm not trying to be greedy,' he said.

'I'm just looking for something to help pay back my parents for all the money they put forward for me and something to give me a head start because I've been struggling ever since.'

In February 2016, Mr Jackson attended an out-of-control party where teenager Kuol Akut was critically injured after being struck in the head with an object.

The 17-year-old later died from the blow to his head.

Despite party-goers claiming police has arrested the wrong man, Mr Jackson was detained with some of the state's most notorious criminals.

It was later determined Kuol died from one blow to the head, clearing the apprentice of murder.

In 2017, Mr Jackson was cleared of all charges, including intending to do harm and doing an act to cause danger by a Supreme Court jury.

Tommy's lawyer, Anthony Eyers said the young man should be compensated for his time behind bars.

'If you are acquitted and people are acquitted all the time you are simply released there is no sense of any system that you get any compensation for lost time,' Mr Eyers said.

A new police investigation resulted in another youth pleading guilty to Mr Akut's death.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
