«Breaking News» $5.2 million lottery winner admits to scamming people

A California woman who won $5.2 million in a lottery has pleaded guilty in federal court to scamming six people in the wake of her win.

Judy Carroll, 59, of El Cajon, California, and her husband won the California lottery in 1989 and opted to have the money paid out over 20 years.

They were private about their winnings and have never been pictured.

It is unclear what they spent the money on, but long before their last scheduled payment in 2009, Lhotak started telling friends that her accounts had been frozen by the IRS over unpaid taxes which was, for the most part, a lie.

In 2000, her friend Kelly Lhotak, one of her neighbors in El Cajon, the first of several payments she would make over the next 16 years.

Lhotak alone gave her $622,236.01. Five other people, who have not been named, gave her the additional $618,000 she acquired.

To avoid paying them back, the woman repeatedly claimed that her accounts had been frozen. She also claimed dishonestly that her husband had had his identity stolen.

It was only when Lhotak contacted the IRS herself to ask about her friend's accounts that she said she learned of the fraud.

The IRS did freeze her accounts, once, for a period in 2007 and 2008.

In August, a warrant for Carroll's arrest was issued. She was originally charged with 35 counts of wire fraud.

She was arrested by the FBI in Montana, where she lives now, in October of last year and has been free on bond since then though it is unclear how much it was or where she has been living since.

On Friday, she pleaded guilty to four counts in Rapid City, South Dakota, where Lhotak lives.

It is not clear why the case was held there. The deal involved her pleading guilty to four counts of wire fraud and one count of tax evasion.

Each count carries a maximum sentence of 20 years behind bars.

The agreement also calls for her to pay nearly $1.6 million in restitution to victims and the IRS.

'It's been a long time coming, and she deserves punishment for what she did for several victims,' said victim Kelly Lhotak, who met Carroll when they were neighbors in California in the mid-1990s.

'My heart is broken. I have had the worst betrayal of a friendship that anyone can ever experience,' she said.

They were ...

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
