«Breaking News» UEFA Nations League - France 2-1 Holland RESULT

FULL-TIME: France 2-1 Holland

In the end it was frustrating away in Germany but there was plenty to celebrate back in Paris on Sunday for Didier Deschamps and his players.

Olivier Giroud proved to be the matchwinner with a stunning volley in the second half but there were a host of impressive performances with Kylian Mbappe and Paul Pogba deserving mentions.

Ryan Babel rolled back the years for Holland but the task in the hands of Ronald Koeman became even clearer against the world's finest.

NINETY-THREE MINUTES: France running out worthy winners over the 90 minutes

Nothing embarrassing about tonight from a Dutch perspective but over the course of the 90 minutes they have been outclassed by the world champions.

Yes they had a wobble when Ryan Babel scored but plenty of reason for boss Didier Deschamps to be smiling tonight.

FOUR ADDED MINUTES

EIGHT-NINE MINUTES: Babel and Giroud withdrawn after their goals

SUBSTITUTION: Ryan Babel (off) Luuk de Jong (on)

SUBSTITUTION: Olivier Giroud (off) Ousmane Dembele (on)

EIGHTY-FIVE MINUTES: Last throw of the dice from Holland?

Sitting deep is no longer an option and the visitors are visibly committing far more players forward as they go in search of the equaliser.

Better to lose 3-1 when searching for another goal than sit back and except defeat.

EIGHTY MINUTES: Deschamps and Koeman shuffle the pack

Steven N'Zonzi is on for France in place of Antoine Griezmann who receives a well-earned standing ovation. Lost his influence in the second half but was simply sensational in the first 45 minutes.

Ronald Koeman makes a change of his own as Kenny Tete goes off and Daryl Janmaat of Watford comes on.

HOLLAND SUBSTITUTION: Quincy Promes (off) Ruud Vormer (on)

BOOKING: Benjamin Pavard (France)

GOAL - GIROUD PUTS FRANCE AHEAD!

That is just sensational from Giroud. A cross from the left by Benjamin Mendy fired in at hip height and the Chelsea striker swings a boot at it and rifles it home.

Everyone inside the Stade de France (OK not everyone) is delighted for Giroud and that much is clear from the reaction.

He did not score a single goal in Russia but he has the one that counts as it stands this evening.

SEVENTY-FOUR MINUTES: Giroud desperate to get himself a goal

Paul Pogba looks so serene in the middle of the park as he pulls off an eye-of-the-needle ball towards Griezmann but the attack is cut out with Giroud bearing down on goal.

The striker is often criticised for his lack of goals at international level but he's a firm favourite with his team-mates and his manager.

SEVENTY MINUTES: Goals change games

The momentum has changed completely now and Holland are shooting on site with their newfound confidence.

France look rattled and need to just take a breath. Get Griezmann, Mbappe and Pogba on the ball and they will quickly pen the Dutch back.

GOAL! RYAN BABEL

Will they get a better chance? Yes. Yes they will.

This time it falls to Ryan Babel and the cross from the right is at a nice height for Babel who gets away from Pavard and Areola pushes it into the back of the net which will be bitterly disappointing.

Well... game on!

SIXTY-SIX MINUTES: HUGE CHANCE FOR HOLLAND!

Wijnaldum has to score! He finds his way into the area after De Ligt pokes the ball on but he drags his shot wide of the target and that is the best chance they have had.

Will they get a better one?

SIXTY-TWO MINUTES: Dropping deep is a gamble from the Dutch

The Dutch players dropping deeper and deeper when they don't have the ball is tough to understand.

They are not getting even remotely close to some of these French players and they are being afforded the time to pick their heads up and find the pass.

Virgil van Dijk looks a handful on attacking set-pieces but the deliveries have so far been poor and that has to change if the result is going to be thrown into any sort of doubt.

SUBSTITUTION: Lucas Hernandez (off) Benjamin Mendy (on)

FIFTY-NINE MINUTES: Meaty challenges on the menu for both sides

Been a quieter affair 15 minutes into this second half but France are never far away from a counter-attack.

Some meaty challenges also starting to become more of a staple in the game as Olivier Giroud is snapped and goes down holding his ankle.

He's running it off but that did not stop Didier Deschamps barking down the ear of the fourth official.

BOOKED: Antoine Griezmann

The Atletico Madrid forward cynically pulls back Giorginio Wijnaldum and is well deserving of his caution.

Sold down a path with a wonderful bit of skill from the Liverpool midfielder and nobody has any complaints with that one.

FIFTY MINUTES: Once a red, always a red

Former Liverpool man Ryan Babel makes it clear he's in no mood to have any affiliation with Les Bleus with his latest hairstyle harking back to his time at Anfield.

Even in the bright orange jersey, nobody will struggle to pick out Babel from the 22 players in action this evening. He's even showing Pogba's hairstyle up...

FORTY-EIGHT MINUTES: Holland have to stick together amid squabbles

France unsurprisingly sticking with the high-press given how much joy it brought them in the first half.

Reports that a number of the Dutch players got into a heated exchange as they went down the tunnel at half-time. They have got to stick together in this second half or this could get ugly.

BACK UNDERWAY

The other side in this group is Germany and while they are not in action, they are currently 1-1 against Peru in a friendly match.

With nothing riding on it they sound to be going through the motions. I'm sure they will want to take this one in as soon as it's over and view how it panned out.

Players are emerging from the tunnel and Holland have to open up and find a goal, plain and simple. France just want daylight with some more goals.

HALF-TIME: France 1-0 Holland

France playing with the swagger and confidence of world champions and Holland are fortunate they did not suffer further damage.

Antoine Griezmann has been superb but it is Kylian Mbappe who has the decisive goal so far following a mix-up at the back from the visitors.

It was a simple finish from three yards out but it was well deserved. Ronald Koeman needs to shake it up at half-time in a bid to wrestle back some much-needed control.

THIRTY-NINE MINUTES: Antoine Griezmann lethal in the No 10 role

Antoine Griezmann generating plenty of oohs and aahs from the crowd already with his impressive close control.

Clear to see why Barcelona were ready to go above and beyond to sign him this summer, such is his influence in that free role behind the striker.

THIRTY-FIVE MINUTES: Van Dijk urging his team-mates to show composure

Poor passing in their own half has to be eradicated as soon as possible from the Dutch if they are to have any chance of getting back into this one.

Virgil van Dijk is urging his team-mates to show some composure as there remains plenty of smiles of the faces of the French players.

THIRTY-ONE MINUTES: Holland need to change it up to get in the game

France hold a high line for a free-kick from the left and it pays dividends as Virgil van Dijk and Co fail to get a decisive head on it as Paul Pogba clears.

Holland yet to really test Areola in goal and that will be one of the biggest disappointments for boss Ronald Koeman.

If that doesn't change they could be heading for a heavy defeat in Paris.

THE DIFFERENCE SO FAR

TWENTY-SEVEN MINUTES: Fouls breaking up the flow of the game

Niggly fouls are slowing the game right down but it at least gives the Dutch players the chance to get back in to their shape.

France are making pace count with Mbappe, Griezmann and Pogba from a deeper position and they know they need to add further goals while they are on top.

TWENTY-TWO MINUTES: Mexican wave? Seriously?

I get it's a party atmosphere but this has been far from dull enough to whip out the mexican wave, surely?

Holland knocking it around with some confidence now but France pretty happy preserving their energy as they look ready to pounce on any mistake.

Ruthless.

TWENTY MINUTES: Almost exhibition football going forward for France

Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappe have been a class apart so far as they trick and flick their way towards the Holland goal.

The showboating after just 20 minutes gives the sense of an exhibition match. A Holland goal would no doubt see the inventory of skills put to one side, mind you.

SEVENTEEN MINUTES: Plenty of interested spectators watching on for France

They may have a host of household names on the field but France also have plenty of national A-listers watching from the stands too.

Captain and No 1 goalkeeper Hugo Lloris was all smiles as he took in the action. The Tottenham goalkeeper pulled out of the Nations League double header due to fears over a thigh injury.

In the row ahead of the goalkeeper was French president Emmanuel Macron.

FOURTEEN MINUTES: KYLIAN MBAPPE STARTS THE PARTY! 1-0

Big smile from Didier Deschamps because that is an absolute gift of an opening goal.

The PSG striker just has to tap in from three yards out as Blaise Matuidi squares across the box for Mbappe to convert.

Koeman will be livid with that sloppy defending inside their own box and that goal has only livened up an already buoyant crowd.

TEN MINUTES: France dominating proceedings

After a bright start from the Oranje, France have firmly taken control of this one and are threatening from both wings as Holland look to clear their lines for some respite.

It's a five-at-the-back when they are defending and boss Ronald Koeman will be concerned with the last five minutes.

Get the feeling a goal is imminent (potential curse of the live commentator here...)

EIGHT MINUTES: Mbappe is looking to produce the magic

It all looks so effortless going forward for France and this man Kylian Mbappe is never far away from the best of the action.

Remains to be seen how competitive this new-look Holland side can be having failed to reach the last two major tournaments but it's been an encouraging start.

Paul Pogba, too, has started well and that will only strengthen the claims that suggest he's happier playing for his country than his club right now.

FOUR MINUTES: Holland enjoying plenty of the ball early on

Ronald Koeman's side looking to exploit the two young French full-backs. That appears to be the most deducible aspect from the opening exchanges but their hosts are so dangerous when going forward.

It's a party atmosphere right now but that could soon change if Koeman's side take an early lead.

TWO MINUTES: Kylian Mbappe might actually be quicker than a rocket?

Dutch in their iconic orange kit as they get an early look at the French goal with a set-piece delivered from the left but it was easily cleared.

The hosts break instantly with Mbappe and he forces a fine save from Jasper Cilessen. The Paris Saint-Germain star's pace is actually frightening.

He is so quick that he looks fast on the slow-motion replays. Staggering. Let-off for Holland nonetheless.

MATCH IS UNDERWAY

National anthems and it's Holland up first. Big following in the terraces but then comes the French and they'll be heard right across Paris with this level of noise!

I imagine these players won't have had many better atmospheres than this one they find themselves in tonight.

Players beginning to gather in the tunnel for what be a phenomenal welcome inside the Stade de France.

These players will be feeling the goosebumps now and will be keen to just get the match underway.

So much depth at the hands of Didier Deschamps and he will be looking for his players to lay down a marker that they can build on the World Cup title.

Lots of talk around Paul Pogba's club future with the fractious relationship with Jose Mourinho still garnering plenty of attention and he will look to silence any critics with a big performance against Holland.

He looks far more relaxed for Les Bleus alongside N'Golo Kante and it will be interesting to see how the visitors cope in that French engine room. Could be a game-changing factor how they deal with the midfield battle.

Not long to go now in Paris and there are plenty in the stands tonight that are itching to catch a glimpse of Kylian Mbappe.

He excelled out in Russia in the national jersey and he will be looking to add to his fine start to the club season with goals this evening.

Both sets of players going through their rigorous warm-ups before both managers deliver their final instructions for the Nations League Group 1 match.

Stifled against Germany, France will know they will need a much better performance on home soil this evening with an expectant crowd in attendance.

Benjamin Pavard has put his horrific neck injury behind him following a collision with Antonio Rudiger and he and team-mate Lucas Hernandez, who starts at left-back, will be looking to cover plenty of ground in wide areas.

Stage set in the French dressing room

Players are getting ready for their first home match since winning the World Cup in the summer.

They will get a heroes welcome when they emerge for kick-off in what should be a thrilling Nations League match at the Stade de France.

Holland team news: Memphis Depay has been in red hot form for his country in recent outings and will pose a threat playing in the No 9 role.

Will be interesting to see how the two sides match-up during the game with Holland opting for a three-at-the-back formation with Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk at the heart of it.

France team news: Giroud starts in attack with Matuidi, Griezmann and Mbappe behind him. Pogba and Kane will be expected to control the game behind them.

This doesn't make for good reading if you're a Holland fan...

Good evening and welcome to Sportsmail's coverage of tonight's game. France are the big favourites against a Holland side that failed to qualified for the World Cup this summer.

Paul Pogba put Thursday's 0-0 draw against Germany down to him and his team-mates not being 'mentally' or 'physically' ready.

Pogba said: 'We wanted to come back with a win, but I think we are not ready, both physically and mentally.

'This is not easy following a World Cup like the one we did.

'We quickly got back to work, we would have needed more time to recover. But that's football, we need to move on to something else and find new challenges.'

After the euphoria of their World Cup success, France are back to the grind of qualification for a tournament as they look for their first Nations League win.

Their opening match - a 0-0 draw with Germany on Thursday - left plenty of room for improvement as they welcome Holland to the Stade de France on Sunday.

Follow all the action as it happens with Sportsmail's NATHAN SALT throughout the evening. Kick-off is at 7.45pm.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
