«Breaking News» Man's horror at being pinned by fallen tree alongside his dying wife and child is revealed

For two agonizing hours, Zac Johnson was pinned underneath the same tree that killed his wife and eight-month-old son, in what would be the first of at least 16 deaths caused by Hurricane Florence.

Two days after the Friday death of Johnson's son Adam and 41-year-old wife Lesha Murphy, his mother spoke out in an exclusive interview with DailyMail.com to describe the family's tragic ordeal.

Johnson, 48, was also seriously injured in the accident but, miraculously, his life was spared.

He is still in at Hanover County Medical Center in critical condition but has been communicating by cell phone with family members.

'I spoke with him this morning,' Johnson's mother, 74-year-old Mattie Johnson, told DailyMail.com.

'He was coming out of surgery. They're trying to save his legs, and it sounds like the surgery went well.'

'He said his legs were stuck under the tree. He couldn't come lose. My son told me the rescue people were working on the tree for two hours before they could get him out.'

Johnson added Zach assumed his wife and child would be alive when he was rushed to the hospital.

Instead, both were pronounced dead inside the house.

'He called me sobbing,' Johnson said. 'They told him Saturday morning that his family died.'

Johnson added she believes her son, wife and baby born January 20 were all in the same bed when the tree cut through their home like a knife in butter and slammed on the bed.

'I don't even know how he could survive when his wife and baby died,' Johnson said. 'I am sad for the baby and Lesha, and I'm grateful my son is still alive.'

More than 100 police officer and fire fighters as well as search and rescue personnel with sniffer dogs were worked frantically to get to Lesha and her son.

They toiled a total six hours in the driving rain and bursts of wind but eventually found Lesha and baby Adam, still on the bed as if they never realized what had happened.

Realizing there was nothing more that could be done, the dejected rescuers knelt in a circle of prayer, many weeping quietly.

A GoFundMe campaign has been created to help pay funeral expenses for Murphy and Adam.

On Sunday afternoon, an eerie silence surrounded the wrecked house in the Forest Hills neighborhood.

The tree trunk was lifted off the bed on slabs of wood, leaving the house sliced in two.

Pieces of wall and roof littered the ground. Some of Lesha's wet clothes swung softly in the closet with the now-calm wind.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
